Welcome to 2025!
I hope you welcomed the New Year surrounded by your loved ones, raising a glass (or several!) of your favorite bubbly. Today I want to briefly discuss one unpleasant but common problem that many bearded brothers face - knots in their beard. So, here are 4 simple tips that will help you reduce beard tangles and prevent knots.
1. THE RIGHT TOOL IS HALF THE JOB!
When combing or styling your beard, it is very important to use the right comb or brush for your beard type. Some people prefer a natural bristle brush, while others prefer a wide-toothed comb, which is great for combing out more difficult areas. The most important thing is not to use a fine-toothed comb or a hard brush, as they can do more harm than good: damage your hair, cause split ends, or even thin your beard. Check out our limited edition TBS beard combs and brushes coming soon - available in our e-shop.
2. OIL/BALM FIRST, ONLY THEN COMBING!
We all have our own beard care routine. What works for one person may not work for another. I used to use TBS morning balm after combing out the knots. But when I changed the order – oil or balm first, then combing – everything started to go much smoother. The product helps soften the beard and knots come out more easily. Try it for yourself – it might be a lifesaver for your beard too.
3. SLEEPING POSITION = LESS KNOTS
This tip sounds simple, but it’s harder to put into practice. If you can sleep on your back, your beard will rub less and tangle less at night. Most of the knots form while you sleep – your beard hairs rub against each other and turn into unpleasant balls. If you’re a restless sleeper – I understand, because I wake up curled up like a pretzel too, but it’s worth the effort. Maybe a silk pillowcase or even a lightweight beard cover for sleeping will help.
4. EVERY TIME – EASY CUTTING
If you’re anything like me, the thought of trimming your beard sends shivers down your spine. But keeping it short and neat helps prevent split ends and greatly reduces the chance of knots. Split ends not only look bad up close, they also hinder the growth of your beard. So, at least visit a trusted barber every now and then, or, if you’re feeling brave, trim your beard yourself with a trusted guide.
AND THE END...
That's all for now - a few simple but useful tips to help your beard look as good as you! I'm currently testing a few more grooming techniques, which I'll definitely be covering in "Part 2" soon.
In the meantime, if you have any questions or want to share your tips, be sure to leave them in the comments below.
And as always - let's grow a beard, brothers, let's grow a beard.
